Scope and Contents Song entitled 'Niall Odhar' collected from Tormaid (Buidhe) Donullach [Norman MacDonald], age about 30 years, Cross [Cros, Nis/Ness, Eilean Leòdhais/Isle of Lewis] beginning 'O Naile bhig 's na ho ro, 'S trua[gh] nach ro[bh] me fhi[n] 's Nial[l] O[dh]ar'. The accompanying story is unclear but seems to indicate that 'Clann ic 'Ile Bhir'eamh' lived in Eòropaidh/Eoropie and that they went to the mainland. Also that they did not kill Niall Odhar. Scope and Contents Story entitled 'Mac Mhuirich' probably collected from John MacInnes, aged 70 years, Stadhlaigearraidh/Stilligarry, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist. The story tells how MacMhurich is coming back from Rum [Rhum] when 'gille glas' asks if MacMhuirich will take him as far as Uist [Uibhist]. Reluctantly, MacMhuirich agrees exchanging some balast for the gille glas. En route water starts coming in so all are called upon to bale out the vessel but to no avail. The gille glas takes control of the steering...

A farmer took a load of them home and put them at the end of the house so that they would stay cold. in the house was a nurse who was looking after a baby and heard a big seal coming to life and saw it kiss a small seal and singing a song beginning 'Spòg Spaidrich òig, Spog mo Chaidhich choir'. Scope and Contents Transcription notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The majority of the volume has been used but intermittently there are groups of blank folios. Carmichael appears to have written in the book in the 1860s creating sections of different genres at different stages in the volume, with pages left blank in between to fill up appropriately. In about 1875 he has then used some of these blank pages to transcribe notes and stories but has not kept to the genres sections he initially created....
